Big Increase in Prices for the People and Big Salary Increase for Macri and His Cabinet

January 3, 2019

The president of Argentina, Mauricio Macri, rang in the New Year at his vacation retreat in Villa La Angostura, by signing a decree establishing a salary increase for him and his entire Cabinet.

The 25 percent wage increase comes in the midst of the country’s economic crisis and will come into effect on two dates: 20 percent in January and the remaining five percent in February.

The decree number 1198/2018 was signed by the president, the chief of Cabinet, Marcos Peña, and the Minister of Finance, Nicolas Dujovne.

This means that 300 officials of the Cambiemos Government will receive salary increases, including ministers, secretaries and undersecretaries.

This decision has generated controversy in Argentina, that Macri would make this outrageous increase in his salary while enjoying his luxurious vacation at the hacienda in the south of the country, while public workers demand wage increases.

The Argentine president has implemented sharp cuts in social programs in the midst of the nation’s historic debt and to comply with agreements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). At the same time, the increase in public service fees has not ceased since he came to power.
