Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said Thursday that the opposition in that South American nation, particularly the one that follows the extremist sector, has only brought threats to peace and sanctions against the population.

During the anti-imperialist march on the 62nd anniversary of the People’s Rebellion against the military dictatorship of Marcos Pérez Jiménez, the president received the revolutionary people at the Presidential Miraflores Palace, and emphasized that the main aim of this opposition sector is to promote a coup d’état.

He also pointed out that those who support the self-proclaimed opposition deputy Juan Guaidó “do not have civil-military support”, so they surrender to the interests of U.S. imperialism and its allies in Europe.

“The only thing that the extremist opposition can celebrate is the corruption amongst its leaders at the expense of the people,” the President said, adding that so far in 2020 they have only shown division and fights in their own ranks.

The Head of State reiterated that, in the face of “the comedy” created by the opposition a year ago, the Venezuelan people know very well how to confront them and in 2019 demonstrated their capacity to fight. “To our people it is worth it, the struggle, the absolute loyalty (…) We can celebrate the victory of Venezuela’s truth to the world”.

Justice for Venezuela

Maduro said he hopes there will be justice for Venezuelans after opposition leaders continue to call for the country’s intervention, as well as the imposition of more sanctions in violation of their rights.

“I hope that the Venezuelan justice system is following up on all the calls for military intervention and sanctions so that the decisions that need to be taken will be made, to do justice, I hope as head of state that this is the case,” he said.

He also reiterated that 2020 must be a year for the country to advance, which will allow the daily construction of the economy and society. “Enough of this damage. We are defending the existence of our Republic, the development of our country,” he exclaimed.

Parliamentarian Elections

The Venezuelan president recalled that this year parliamentary elections are being held and urged the revolutionary people to unite and prepare themselves in order to win the elections, and thus recover the National Assembly (NA) with an opposition majority and which remains in contempt.

In this regard, he explained that government representatives have maintained a dialogue with the different sectors of the opposition to reach an agreement on the renewal of the National Electoral Council (CNE), which provides all the necessary guarantees so that everyone will run for office, ” this is so all of the opposition will participate and the people will do justice for so much evil done with their vote.
