The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro expressed today that it is urgent for the world to consolidate the construction of a new order of peace, cooperation, dialogue, political, religious, as well as cultural diversity, multilateral and pluricentric, during the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
“We have to achieve a world without hegemonic empires, freed from the attempt of economic, financial, military and geopolitical domination of any empire, those which for centuries exploited the world with the old colonialism”, added the Venezuelan president.
Maduro once again denounced before the member nation of the UN the onslaught and ferocious campaign orchestrated against his country by the elites led by the United States along with their allies in Europe and elsewhere. “They have wanted to instrumentalize world organizations against a noble people like Venezuela”, he said.
In this sense, despite the attacks, the South American country is heading towards a process of stability, “Venezuela has decided to take the path of the deployment of the productive forces of a country subjected to an infernal blockade. This year we have gone from a painful phase of resistance to a phase of progress thanks to science, resistance and the spiritual strength of the people”, Maduro added.
The Venezuelan President reported with satisfaction the progress in 2021 of the process of dialogue with the opposition and different social, economic and political sectors, aimed at the common horizon of a better country for the wellbeing of all Venezuelans, while he also praised the celebration of the 29th electoral process in 20 years, which took place in a totally democratic manner.
“I can say before the UN that we have achieved it, and thanks to the support of Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s Mexico, Russia and the Netherlands, we are tackling an integral agenda to advance in the uprising of the nation, on autonomous productive bases, economic development and social welfare as its pillars”, detailed President Maduro.
He also reiterated the accusation about the fierce campaign and a series of attacks through sanctions and persecution against the right to economic freedom, and social rights that should be guaranteed for all the peoples of the world to enjoy”.
In addition, he also revealed the financial siege and persecution suffered by his nation by highlighting that “financial accounts are being persecuted, gold reserves have been blocked, bank accounts in the US and Europe, Venezuelan and mining companies are prevented from opening bank accounts in different parts of the world.
“It is a systematic and cruel war but Venezuela has been able to count on the majority support of the world to confront this war, to fight against these new forms of exploitation against the people and to bet on a multipolar world, free of colonialism”, said Maduro.
The Venezuelan President further called for the lifting of all sanctions against Venezuela by the U.S. and the European Union, as well as the economic and commercial blockade imposed by Washington on Cuba, and thanked the UN for its support to advance in the achievement of this goal.
Climate urgency
President Maduro addressed other issues of central importance in his speech, such as the essential actions to halt the effects of climate change and against the emission of polluting gases.
“We need verifiable and viable measures of action to stop the process of deterioration of the planet, to prevent and mitigate the effects of phenomena such as floods, droughts, fires, and other disasters that have proliferated around the world.”
“It is our spaces that must be strengthened, it is sovereignty. A new world is being reborn, to put an end to the hegemons and the pretension of some to set themselves up as judges of all things. We need a new UN, so that we can all share life and solidarity along the just path of a necessary order”, he said.
Maduro concluded his address by saying that, “Venezuela counts on and stands up, hand in hand with Latin America and the Caribbean, for that new world.”
