Cuba: A Semiotic War must also Be Waged Here

By Fernando Buen Abad Domínguez on October 18, 2021

All the offensives prepared against Cuba by the Yankee empire, disguised as “free men and women”, is an ambush of provocations infested with rancid coupism and criminal preaching. Nothing new. Old poison in new bottles. We are not going to get tired of denouncing and even less of fighting. A Semiotic War is being waged here that demands swift and ubiquitous intelligence. Quick response and in-depth debate.  They attack everywhere, they use tastes, pleasures and congregations. They use hardships and they use our mistakes. Their immortality has no limits and their age-old dream is to infiltrate the heads of the young and not so young. They say that the Second World War was won by Hollywood.

In the method of “liberal” camouflage perverse devices are planted to, with such a self-baptism, make us believe that we are the wrong ones and the enemies of freedom and the free development of humanity. With this discourse, the right-wing and ultra-right-wing packs are unleashed all over the world. They pontificate with chameleon-like hype with the sole purpose of generating deception and confusion in the heads of the clueless.

Our work has the responsibility to make visible all the catalogs of ideological-bourgeois manipulations. To write the history of the Semiotic Wars. To dedicate time and study to it; the creative preparation of didactic materials and the deployment of all the necessary debates, in all possible corners, to illuminate, with the reason of science and the ethics of the common good, the ideological burrows where the historical betrayals against the democratic dignity of the peoples are incubated. This must not be left to chance, nor can it be irresponsibly neglected.

We have had to pay very painful consequences for not fighting in time the manipulation of consciences and the subjugation of wills through the ideological domination of the hegemonic classes. All the consequences are tattooed in the history of humanity and have become more and more acute to the extent that they have developed technologies and methodologies for the oppression of thought, word and action. They have armies for the control of geographical territory, financial territory and mental territory. Thus they have infected children and youth with ideological “narcotics” of all kinds and in all formats. Alcoholism, drug addictions, gambling addictions of all kinds, including “digital” ones. Individualism, consumerism, egocentrism, dogmatism, supremacy, negationism… irrationality turned into merit and big business. Gender violence, racism and induced demoralization. Enough is enough!

We must consolidate renewed spaces of Semiotic action from the grassroots. To recover and amplify the common sense of revolutionaries in its exact place, which is the highest rung of the human condition. Revolutionize humanism, revolutionize the conversations and revolutionize all of us in a plan of daily struggle that is capable of expelling, inch by inch, every vestige and every “virus” of the dominant ideology that operates against our history of emancipatory struggle and against our unity of diverse peoples. Head by head, collective by collective. Cultivate an emancipated semiotics towards permanent emancipation. To neglect these tasks is suicidal. We urgently need a semiotic guerrilla of direct action, by all means, to produce the indispensable cultural antibodies that exterminate, in short terms, the toxic influences of the media and the bourgeois ways to manipulate consciences.

We could write the horoscope of the outrages against Cuba. We know where they come from, we know their ideological chameleons, we have identified their means and their ways. We know the agenda of their hostility and slander. We are capable of recognizing their syntaxes, their vocabularies and their impoverished logic. We recognize their intellectual and educational poverty and we know who pays them, how and where. We need to take “ten steps” ahead, to win the game by political, intellectual and humanistic advantage. To put ourselves at the forefront of the production of meaning, at the height of the times and the current needs. To win the Semiotic War against them we only have to make the political decisions. There is no time to lose.
