The United States and Human Rights in Cuba

To its own discredit, every day the actions of the US government become more deceitful, as it squanders millions in torturing a country and its entire population to deprive them of their livelihood and then generously finances all kinds of projects, platforms and people who contribute to present a demonized image of Cuba, lacking even the slightest objectivity in order to deceive and try to sell and impose to the world its outrage.

With extravagant double standards, it is more difficult for it to mask the true nature of the inhumane and shameful measures it undertakes against Cuba every day, against its population, its health system, its doctors and noble programs which it labels as slave trade and all the legitimate sources of income of a neighboring country. Once again, the U.S. government with the “decency”, “coherence” and noble , “coherence” and noble purposes that characterize it, singles out #Cuba in its disinformation operations on Human Rights, an issue it uses as one more instrument in the effort to justify what has no possible justification under the light of the Sun, a failed, decadent and inhuman policy from any angle you look at it, overflowing with coercive measures that flagrantly violate International Law and the elementary human rights of our country and the entire population of Cuba. There is not a Cuban family that has not suffered or known of the loss or illness of a loved one in the year 2021 that has not had to suffer due to the lack of timely access to all necessary medicines. This is something that no Cuban is used to, something new that we owe to the fraudulent inclusion of Cuba on the terrorist list in the year 2021, the intensified blockade by Trump and Biden and the shameful persecution of all Cuban transactions including those of raw materials to produce medicines that we never lacked before.

What Human Rights is the State Department talking about, which in a supreme act of cruelty preferred to play electoral politicking at the moment of maximum need of our people?

The truth is that this disinformation operation led and financed by the U.S. government against Cuba is not linked to genuine concerns about what is happening or not in the world and neither in our attacked country, whose situation in #HumanRights is not perfect but it exceeds, by far, that of other countries as reflected even in the manipulated report, and is a situation that also exceeds the lack of protection of human rights suffered by millions of people in the U.S. population itself.

Nor are there any coercive measures or condemnations published in the messages of high-ranking U.S. officials for countries receiving military and police aid, a privilege that is reverted in the most innovative techniques to repress the population, to blindfold students in South America or to take the lives of hundreds of activists and journalists. The United States, which has led virtually every invasion we have known in our not-so-young lives, also supports with significant U.S. taxpayer budgets states that attack other sovereign states in defiance of United Nations resolutions and continues to fund and support operations of abuse and repression unknown in Cuba.

Much has been achieved by our small country in terms of Human Rights for all, there is much more we could advance in the promotion of human rights in Cuba and much work is being done for it in all areas but we must be blind not to see that it is the policy of the United States, its blockade so harmful perpetuated over time and its desire to dominate Cuba with that excessive interference, as being the main obstacle for our country to achieve its dreams of social justice, development to its real capacity and full democracy. We will move forward, we know that we can all find strength and new and better ways to move forward, no matter what the US does. We have already overcome the worst and in the country there are inexhaustible reserves of transformations, creativity and decorum to not accept the abusers’ plan. I do not know what they are thinking when they redouble their bets for regime change or as we see in the migration policy for the use of the needs and aspirations of thousands of Cuban human beings who want a better life even if it were not in Cuba in the hope of forcing them to attack the country that formed them, gave them free health care and education. They will not do it but many more will leave because of that same policy obsessed with collapsing our project without achieving it.

It is the same government that talks in Central America about investing in improving the living conditions of the population to address the causes of emigration. And reduce the need to emigrate. With Cuba they do the opposite. Today also those people who are our neighbors, relatives or friends are hostages of the same inhuman policy.

Let’s hope that the sanity of those in the United States who want or at least know Cuba better will prevail. I am one of the many who stay in Cuba, no one should be punished for that, we are the people who chose and will choose to bet on improving the lives of all with the help of all, one more of those millions who voted not long ago by 86% of the population for our socialist Constitution.
